Going by this thread I shouldn't have too much trouble getting served at the bar.

Went to this gig last night. Haven't been to that venue before, but if you weren't in the main part of the auditorium, right at the edge, or under the balcony, the sound was very poor. It There was very nasty vibration from speakers and it was muffled. I would expect a decent venue to at least incest in a quality sound system. There were quite a lot of people spilled out around the edges, and they received a pretty second rate sound. Not good enough O2!

That venue is notorious for poor sound. I've been there a few times and the sound when you're under the balcony is horrendous, like someone had filled your ears with sludge.

Do you mean this Academy or the old one, Debbie? The one Embrace played on Saturday opened in 2010, the old one on Dale End was closed down. You're right about the old one having terrible sound if you were stood under the balcony but I loved that place, the Embrace show there on the Out Of Nothing Tour in 2004 is in my top 5 gigs of all time.
But anyway the points are still valid, the new Academy is a horrible venue. Maybe I hate it because some little fucker groped my wife in there a couple of years back and the security threatened me when I found the little cunt outside. Aside from that the security are over-zealous, the bar queues are horrendous and the layout is terrible. I only go back there for bands I really love - so far it's been Suede and Embrace - but I'd prefer never to set foot in the place again.
So if Embrace read this and are planning to return to Birmingham any time soon, try and play the brilliant Institute instead.
