I understand that a Embrace being back is exciting for a lot of people. But what does this 'back' actually mean? Does it mean a few secret gigs? Does it mean an album and a tour? Do Embrace still have a record deal? Are they looking for one? Are they doing it themselves? Also, does anyone else find this invasion thing a bit weird, and not in a good way?

I vaguely recall Mickey saying a few months back that they're still signed to Independiente, I assume this means they're carrying on with them. Also, does anyone else find this invasion thing a bit weird, and not in a good way? Yes... how do you find it weird? I have an opinion but it's not a popular one and everyone on here will probably hate me for it.

I have an opinion but it's not a popular one and everyone on here will probably hate me for it. It confuses me a lot. Pun very unintended, but I find the whole thing really alienating. Part of me wants to help get the word out and all and (selfishly) do whatever I can to get to a secret gig or any gig at all, but there's another part of me that feels like the whole alien business is an inside joke that I don't get. I know that "John Al White" is the voice of the band for now on social media or whatever, but 1. I hate social media (I understand that's how the world works now, that's how they have to promote themselves, but it sucks) and 2. A big part of me wishes that the band members themselves were doing the talking. The trailer for SG19 was the coolest part by far of this whole thing, and that was because it had the band in it, and a minute and a half of new music, some hidden lyrics, some hints as to the tone and themes of the album...it was really, really great. I feel like a dickweed for complaining about anything they've done since, especially since they have to promote somehow. Maybe the label's not planning on helping too much with marketing?

If I can be arsed I might write a bit more about it, Willow. A lot of what joshwood says makes sense and I agree with. A lot of what has happened over the last few weeks just smacks of desperation, and a bit of perspective wouldn't go amiss. The helicopter pilot who tragically lost his life in Glasgow last week has a Facebook page with 4,000+ 'followers'. Even with the Embrace "campaign" going this long all that's happened is a couple of hundred people have joined the Facebook page. Of those, two dozen weirdos aren't going to whip up the sort of hysteria required to shift units. If I had to decribe it in two words they would be 'odd' and 'embarrassing'. That's just how I see it right now.

Oh how I've missed the debate.

I'm a bit torn on this debate to be honest. I'm trying my best to spread the word, but most of my mates at this point either like Embrace or they don't. I could maybe change their mind with a new record, and a local gig that's easy to get access to, but in the absence of either, I think people are just ignoring my incessant Facebook posts about the band. I haven't had anyone say "thanks for sharing, I'd never heard them but I've had a listen and I like it".
So in short, I'm not entirely sure what we are accomplishing for the band's future success, other than letting the wider world know that they are back. However, if they and the label think it's working or will accomplish something, fair enough. Where's the harm in it?
On the other hand, the band has decided they want to put out a new record and play some gigs. Their Facebook page has 50,000 followers, not supergroup numbers, but decent enough to support whatever they end up doing.
There's always been a hardcore of Embrace fans who border on the obsessive - with the messageboard and now all of this stuff. (I say that knowing full well that I fit this description :-) )
There's a huge sense of community at the moment, and since I don't plan on stopping being an Embrace fan, I like the fact that this enhances my experience following the band. It might not do much for record sales, but it's really heartwarming and bloody exciting to be a part of.

That's just how I see it right now. I see what you're saying. That is a point about there not being enough of us to make an impact but my main point was that the band themselves are telling us to spread the word... and not just once or twice in a couple of Facebook statuses, but with an entire set of rules, one for each day, and a whole separate Facebook group dedicated to... well, spamming. Cause that's what we're supposed to do - post offtopic messages on other bands' Facebook pages/forums and harrass local media. I just think Embrace have gotten a little carried away with what they asked us to do. If a fan had organised the whole thing, written the ROE, made the Facebook group, it would have been a really lovely thing to do... but the band themselves doing it? I agree with Quote, it seems a little desperate. If they were a charity or the leaders of a rebellion I could totally understand, but they're not. Maybe there's something they haven't told us yet and when they do it'll all make sense? I really hope so.

No one has to join in the games if they don't want to. It is, after all, a free country.

The communication from the band (Al) suggests that they understand the need to avoid spamming. Telling us to blend in etc. But when the incentive of secret gig tickets is there for people who do a lot, people are always going to push the limits a bit more than is ideal. Overall it's a good thing to do and a good way to harness the love for the band that us hardcore folk have. However, we must be careful about how we conduct ourselves if it's going to help rather than hinder.

Bollocks insofar as 4000+ grief bandwagon jumpers about a tragic accident can't be compared to an attempt at a social media buzz and a bit of a laugh. It's like comparing apples and and chicken soup.
Plus, facing facts here, we (Embrace fans) generally aren't the age and mindset of the army of Justin Bieber fans who would flood the entire universe with his piss given half the chance......we're typically a demographic of adults with jobs, and/or kids, and lives.....we don't all have the same time to devote to what amounts to a social media street team.
As for label, dunno. Record, yeah, so Mickey said anyway.

Someone on Facebook posted this: www.recordoftheday.com/news-and-press/cooking-vinyl-signs-embraceSo no more Independiente it seems.
