Wondering if there are any like minded souls out there who enjoy moving on their own steam. I ride a Specialized Sirrus Sport (Hybrid) bike, mainly around the Gower coast. I average between 220-300 miles a month and have been cycling in earnest for the last 7 months or so and I love it. I am not a 'roadie' as I do not fancy dressing up like a magic marker each time I go out on my bike and I prefer the 'sit up and beg' riding position anyway. I am a hardy soul though who regularly leaves the house around 5.30 for early morning rides to miss 'people' and am unaffected by cold wet weather. What's your ride and where do you go? Talk cycling here. (Some snaps taken this summer)

Great pics! I miss living by the sea. I desperately wish I could ride a bike but I've had a balance problem since birth when I was born with hearing problems and even though my hearing is fine now I still have no balance

The Gower is so beautiful. If where I lived was half as nice as there, I might be tempted by cycling. We have a canal with a narrow path and that's about as nice as it gets. Otherwise you're risking your life with no choice but to ride on busy roads :-(

Cycling round by where I live isn't nice. I gave up, but mostly cause my bike was crap and the chain kept falling off. Not good when growing the fingernails with the oil and breakages.

I bought a £300 bike to make suire I wanted to cycle quite a bit. Pointless spending a fortune if you are going to put the bike in the shed after the 1st trip. That was last year and I got half my money back when I sold it on Ebay. My new one cost me £450, (Reduced from £500) which is still a fair chunk of cash but apparently a low amount in the big scheme of things regarding bike prices. It is a lot better than my last one being lighter with more gears, better components etc. My advice for someone wanting to try it is not to buy a Sports Direct BSO (Bicycle shaped object) but go for one around £250 and then if like me, you love it, upgrade at a later date. There are lots of good websites with routes etc and even if you live in the urban sprawl, you may be surprised as to what is a few miles out of town.

I bought a bike 6 years ago, it's still chained up in the hut awaiting set up...

I'm into cycling. Completed Coast to Coast a few times, Reivers Route, Coasts and Castles and last August Hadrians Cycleway. Great excuse to get out with your mates once a week with a goal at the end and have a cycling holiday once a year. I'd recommend it Sideshowbob.

I have a Merlin Malt 4 fella. It's a mountain bike but I upped the handlebars and opted for semi slicks for our cycle trips as the majority is done on the road. Picture is offov the interweb as I don't have an image to hand.
