Not really interested in the what so much as the why.
I don't know what mine is. It might be Now You're Nobody. It's so goddamn beautiful. You can hear every sound, clear as day - the bass thumping along, that guitar riff, the jingle bells, timpani fills, strings quavering like they're barely holding on. The vocals are so understated compared to everything else on TGWO. There's no simple, recognizable structure to it, so it seems to float along, carrying you with it.
I know exactly what Now You're Nobody is about while I'm listening to it, but it starts to fall away the moment it ends, like a dream.

Someday is mine... Although I liked Embrace before OON was released, it was this album that really hit home. At the time I was in a long term relationship with the father of my children. It wasn't a healthy relationship and this album along with the old board and some of the people I met there helped see me through some very dark times. Someday and it's lyrics will always hold a special place in my heart, it reminds me of the way I was feeling at the time and the friends who supported and advised me during those times. Seven years on and my life has changed completely. My Someday finally came I 'broke out of the box' five years ago. I finally saw the way they saw things and although it's been a long road to where I am now, I made it! My love for this band is endless for this very reason.

The Good Will Out.
I'm not really sure why. The lyrics don't make a huge amount of sense, but to me in my own head they're about being a good person, trying to do the right thing, and eventually everything will be alright.
Might not be right, but that's what I want it to be about.
On a day where the world has got me down, when I've had enough, when I'm inside my own head and all twisted in knots, when somebody's been a twat to me, when something just hasn't gone right, or when I am simply mentally or emotionally exhausted, The Good Will Out is the song more than any other that brings me back to a normal functioning human being. If I stick this song on, six minutes later I'm either smiling and singing along or I'm crying my eyes out and on the road to recovery. It's been that way for fifteen years. I was a teenager when I first heard it. I'm now 33 with a wife, a child and a mortgage. It's never lost its effect.
I don't care if that makes no fucking sense, it's what it is.

For me that the beauty of music, doesn't matter if the songwriter meant a song to mean what it means to the individual it is what it is. That's exactly how I feel about Someday it had it's own meaning for me which is bound to be entirely different to the meaning it had to Danny when he wrote it!!

The Good Will Out. This song means so much to me & Steve. Most people here will know the story but for those that don't, Steve & I were lucky enough to have boy/girl twins back in January 1993. Our daughter Catherine is now almost 21 and is a fantastic daughter & we love her & are so proud of her. Our son Matthew was autistic & had learning difficulties and he also really loved Embrace. I think we brainwashed him :-) His favourite song was TGWO and he always liked to dance to it with a massive smile on his face. Matthew died in February 2005 and we didn't think that we'd ever be able to listen to the song again. But as we have such amazingly good memories of life with Matthew, we decided to take the lyrics "the good will come out and start the healing" to heart & have tried to live life for each moment. We were at the Barrowlands gig not that long after Matthew died and heard Embrace dedicate TGWO to Matthew. It was very moving & we were grateful for this emotional tribute. Sorry if this seems maudlin, it's not meant to be, more of a celebration of Matthew & the joy he brought us.

Gill, I don't know if you'll remember this or not, but the band dedicated TGWO to Matthew for pretty much the entire tour, for me the song is linked with Matthew forever now.

Gill that gig has stayed with me through all these years and I still have a tear when I hear TGWO. I remember standing with our arms all round each other singing our hearts out. It's not maudlin at all. It was a song that brought joy to your little boy and that's a lovely thing x.

This is a really hard question to answer. It's completely dependent on the mood I'm currently in and the time of day, day of week etc as to what my favourite song is. I suppose a favourite song should be one I'm happy to listen to at any time, regardless but it's not really that easy.
In terms of reminiscing, The Way I Do holds a real nostalgia for me and I think it might be because it reminds me of our trip to Cornwall for the Eden Project gig all those years ago. Had a great weekend with some amazing people and that song was sort of the theme tune to the weekend for various reasons (!!!).
In terms of just loving a song for the way it sounds - for a slow one, it's gotta be I Had A Time for me. From the moment it starts to the very last note, it's haunting and relevant and, well, just great. Sorry, was never much of a reviewer! For a more upbeat track, I could listen to Someday all day long. And Blind, but I think that's probably a given.

Hi Debbie, I do remember hearing about that at the time and I was so glad that we went to Glasgow & heard it. I thought that the way the band dedicated the song to him was so lovely & it still makes me emotional even now. It's nice to know that people still remember Matthew & think of him when they hear TGWO.

Has to be 'that's all changed forever' no particular reason apart from the emotion that is within the song. Listening to it in the car always gives me goosebumps and make me want to sing and sing loudly. Unfortunately it sounds better in my head than out loud !

I had a time
But that will change weekly! Just too many. One of my favourite songs growing up was come back to what you know, so thats stuck. Ashes is just immense though, drawn from memory, and The good will out!

"That's All Changed Forever" is my favourite song! It was the first song I ever heard of Embrace and it's simply beautiful. But there are so many other great songs!

One of my favourites has always been Higher Sights, it's a really simple little song that builds into a big soaring end, it's got passion.
More recently though Madeline has kind of taken over. It was the first song I heard them sing live in 7 years and it gave me shivers. I didn't think I was that bothered, I got a little excited through the day but totally didn't anticipate how I'd feel when I heard them again. When I heard the opening bars of Madeline I got goosebumps. It's got the same passion as the songs on AYGGP but it feels more sophisticated and subtle. It's gentle without being a ballad. Every time I hear it I'm transported back to standing in the pub with some great friends not knowing what to expect and being blown away.
