It's their best ever comeback single. No question. You're scaring me now. Well, I'm hardly going to vote for "Nature's Law" or "Wonder" am I? Bloody terrible stuff. My god how my ears have suffered over the years due to this band. They're lucky I've stuck with them. Hi DC!

Just listening to Danny with Jo on radio2 now. Has he always had a stammer, never noticed it before. Ahh thats what it was on the XFM interview, i thought it was a nervy emotion at first, like he was about to cry, but yeah your right its a little stammer. Might be something to do with his heart condition he had / has.

Are their any lyrics anywhere yet? Can't make them all out properly yet. Thank you Scare the Tagines, they take refugees for wives I was preferring 'Skeletor jeans' to the version Guy has put up

From Jo Mcnamara on facebook group
The snow on the screen we're going light speed tonight Like Bonnie & Clyde except we don't die tonight And the blister packs coats and crumpled up notes appear It's a break from the swill, the piss they distill around here A break from the swill, the piss they distill around here.... Lift off of this Metropolis When this town comes down, I wish I wish My first degree emergency Is kettled by your cavalry, I wish I wish The cash machine queens when ambulance teams arrive In their skeletal jeans they take Refugees for wives when their collars get felt their glorified belts won't keep 'em warm and we'll run up the strand, your wrist in my hand we know we're born yeah I know, I'm born yeah I know I'm born Lift off of this Metropolis When this town comes down, I wish I wish My first degree emergency Is kettled by your cavalry, And when all of your friends are my enemies wishing me gone as I'm running away And my only defence is the worst of me Out in the open for all to survey When you settle for less than I promised you Knowing that all of our barrels are scraped If it seems like it's harder to say to you It's cause some things are just harder to say Lift off of this Metropolis When this town comes down, I wish I wish My first degree emergency Is kettled by your cavalry, I wish I wish

Posted in the wrong section earlier, but never mind. Its quite good, Danny does sound like Ian McCulloch, and there is a vague hint of auto tune which is disturbing. Wouldn't sound out of place on Biffy Clyro's Opposites album would it? V surprising that after 8 years the lead vocalist on the comeback single is Richard. Have ordered the album already, lets hope its a good'un.

It reminds me of Prefab Sprout for some reason, which is no bad thing. Great to hear some new material at last.

First impressions: Obviously more electronic sound, don't like the use of auto-tune at the start (if that's what it is) as it obscures the vocal and the lyrics lose clarity. After 30 seconds I was worried. Then the chorus comes in and a huge wave of relief ran over me - obviously as a fan you want the band to experiment and evolve but also don't want them to lose what made them special and I was relieved to hear it was still there. Rik on vocals a lovely surprise - though of course they used the same trick on Hooligan when they wanted to throw a curveball at expectation. Overall I love it as a song and look forward to hearing it live where I expect it is epic. As a prelude to the album my one hope is that we don't get an album that sounds like it has been made on a computer (which Refugees does). I really need to hear guitars and (real) drums. Also I should say that while I think fans will enjoy the video I think they may have gone a little too dark if the objective is to win new fans Roll on 28 April. Exactly what I felt/experienced, this first 30-45 seconds - what the f***??, than the chorus: Relief! After listening the whole evening yesterday: It's a grower, it's a beast, it's EMBRACE! Can't wait to hear the EP and than the Album. BTW: Thanx Jo (?) for posting the lyrics. For me as a non native speaker almost impossible to get them...

If you're afraid of a little drum machine, you better hold onto your butt when you hear the 10 minute trapstep crescendo that inverts on itself to become an EDM banger, on the album.

I may have completely missed the obvious, but no option to pre order a physical cd version of the EP?

Having listened to the single again on Jo Whiley I'm really pleased to hear they've done a good radio edit. As much as I love the full song you can't have a 5 minute track as your comeback single and expect it to succeed beyond the hardcore fanbase - it was really important that the radio edit of the song didn't lose anything and it doesn't, if anything I think it sounds even better and tighter without the 30 second intro and the 30 second orchestral coda before Danny comes in.
I cannot get over how incredible the last minute of this track is - hairs on the back of my neck tingling just at the thought of seeing it live.

It really is fantastic live, you won't be disappointed. Rick's vocals are rawer and it's a bit heavier. The first time I heard it I didn't have any expectations at all, hadn't seen any SG trailers or had any hints at what the new sound was at all, other than Monkey Boy saying I'd love it, and it was one of the tracks that totally blew me away.

Some people over complicate music.... talking about every little detail
Simple questions to ask yourself....
Is it a good track? (Yes) Is it showing that Embrace are back stronger than they were 7 years ago? (YES) Is it a different sound to what we know of embrace (Possibly but that's not a bad thing)
I for one think they couldn't have come back with a better track and its a very hard thing to do because it is literally make or break for something they have been working on for 5+ years

Aside from the bit about Monkey Boy, this was pretty much my experience of it at SG19, in a cold dark basement room with a bunch of strangers who are now my friends. That's what this band do that is so fucking special - they bring people together.
