I loved it yesterday but today I'm thinking it's just ok. Really don't like the first verse, muffled vocals, and I'm finding it really hard to pick out more than one clear word per line.
Maybe I overplayed it but I'm thinking it's pretty forgettable.
I love the bass line though.

What worries me a little is that they keep talking about this song as being the absolute pinnacle, and that they took so long to write the album because of the challenge of getting the tunes up to the same level.
I really hope it grows on me.

Yes this worries me too. Don't get me wrong it's good but it's not amazing. I really wanted it to be amazing.

Unfortunately, I agree. It's good but if that's the best song on the album then the album can't be mind-blowingly amazing There again I didn't even expect to like any of their new material so I guess even that's better than I expected half a year ago. I'm really hoping it's just difference of opinion and there will be songs on the album that I like more.

I'm still loving it but then I've only played it maybe half a dozen times or so not "hundreds" as I know some people have! Like you said willow I'm looking forward to hearing what the rest of the album is like as there maybe songs I love on there even more.

I kept thinking what would their new sound sound like? What is it they want it to sound like? What have they spent all this time on? Well, this... this is what it sounds like and I fucking love it. A new direction? Definitely. But with the anthemic, haunting, meaningful undertones next to a fucking big sound that brought me to them in the first place all those years ago. If you're not moving forward you're standing still but when you listen to it, really listen to it. It's them.
Hat's off to all those who are big into the ROE / GETNO stuff, but that's not really my bag. I'll share, I'll like, I'll vote and I'll buy the music and go to the gigs. The buzz I've felt the last couple of days has been a long time coming and I really can't wait for the album having got the taste back. That said, if that means I wait another 8 years after this, then so be it. All I want from my favourite band is for them to do it their way.

The new single is a grower but like some other folks I am finding it difficult to make the lyrics out - which also means that I still have not got a clue what the song is about or why it is called Refugees!

I don't know WHAT to make of this song now. I was craving it last night so listened to it, then at the end went back and listened to it again, and quite a few more times after that. Then was listening to it on repeat this morning too. Maybe it's grown on me? I hope I continue to love it anyway!

I still get goosbumps when Danny's vocals come in. Yes. Me too. It wouldn't have felt the same if Danny had sung the whole song and I love Rik's voice.

I absolutely love the contrast between the voices. For a while it's hard to believe that it is an Embrace song and then boom, in comes Danny and it's them. Bloody brilliant stuff.

More importantly, where's that place that girl is sitting with her dog? I feel compelled to visit there and sit and watch the sun go down / city light up as in the video. I'd certainly enjoy listening to the song more with a backdrop like that... She's sat on Beacon Hill which overlooks Halifax, West Yorkshire. I've lived in Halifax all my life and never seen it look that good lol
